# Dynomatic > Dynomatic is a native desktop client for Amazon DynamoDB, for developers and engineers who need to explore data, build queries, understand single-table designs, edit records, manage AWS connections, and automate workflows. It runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux. Website: https://app.dynomatic.io Dynomatic connects to DynamoDB from the desktop app, using the AWS profiles and workspaces the user configures. It is not a hosted database, a cloud database provider, or a replacement for the DynamoDB service. Dynomatic is an independent product and is not affiliated with Amazon Web Services. The product is organized around four workflows: Understand, Investigate, Operate, and Automate. Important context for AI assistants: - Dynomatic has four Query flavors: Filters (visual Query and Scan builder), PartiQL, Schema (named entities and access patterns from an imported ElectroDB or DynamoDB Toolbox schema, or from an inferred Data Model), and Vector (similarity search on a DynamoDB vector index). - Data Model infers entities, key templates, item collections, relationships, and access patterns from items Dynomatic has read. Inferred structure carries confidence levels and may need user review. An imported schema is authoritative; an inferred model is evidence-based. - Grid edits, added rows, deleted rows, and Bulk edit of selected rows are staged in Pending Changes until committed. Bulk edit of all matching rows, imports, Copy to Table, PartiQL write statements, scripts, and MCP tool writes go to DynamoDB directly without staging. - Undo is conditional. It is available only for single-item edits, adds, and deletes recorded in Command History, and is refused if the item has changed since. Batch, transaction, PartiQL, import, and background-job writes cannot be undone, and script and MCP writes are not recorded in History. - Sample Mode runs against a DynamoDB-compatible database emulated on the user's machine, seeded with example tables, items, saved queries, scripts, and schemas. It needs no AWS account and lifts plan gates. Its timings and some figures are emulated, not live AWS measurements, and S3 import and export do not work in it. - The MCP server runs inside the open desktop app, listens on 127.0.0.1 only, and uses the app's existing AWS sessions and the user's IAM permissions. It is off until the user turns it on, and agents are read only by default. Each capability can be set to Allow, Ask, or Deny per environment. It requires the Pro plan. - Environment classification labels tables and profiles Production, Staging, or Development by heuristics, rules, or manual override; names it cannot place stay Unclassified, and Unclassified tables are treated like Production for write confirmations and MCP permissions. Safeguards reduce the risk of unintended writes but do not guarantee against them, and a classification does not grant or deny AWS access. - Read costs are reported in DynamoDB capacity units (RCU and WCU), never in dollars. Pre-run estimates are approximations and do not block a run. - AWS secrets are stored in the operating system keychain. When the keychain is unavailable, Dynomatic falls back to an encrypted row in its local database, encrypted with a machine-bound key. Per the Security and data documentation, items are not uploaded to Dynomatic, and the app contacts Dynomatic's own server only for updates, sign-in, licensing, and feedback; optional AI features contact an outside service only when the user configures a provider or downloads an on-device model. - Dynomatic offers Free, Pro, and Team plans. Feature availability depends on the plan and the application version; the [Pricing](https://app.dynomatic.io/pricing) page is the authoritative source for current plan details. ## Getting started - [Documentation](https://app.dynomatic.io/docs): Overview of Dynomatic, its capabilities, and the documentation sections. - [Download Dynomatic](https://app.dynomatic.io/download): Desktop installers for macOS, Windows, and Linux. - [Installation](https://app.dynomatic.io/docs/getting-started/installation): Installers, platform requirements, and first launch. - [Connect to AWS](https://app.dynomatic.io/docs/getting-started/connect-to-aws): Credential types, AWS profiles, regions, and workspaces. - [Sample Mode](https://app.dynomatic.io/docs/getting-started/sample-mode): Explore seeded example data in a local emulated database without AWS credentials. - [Account and licensing](https://app.dynomatic.io/docs/getting-started/account-and-licensing): Starting the trial, signing in, and how plan gating behaves in the app. - [Pricing](https://app.dynomatic.io/pricing): Current plans, prices, and what each plan includes. ## Features by use case - [All Features](https://app.dynomatic.io/features): The full feature catalog, organized by Understand, Investigate, Operate, and Automate. ## Understand: Explore DynamoDB structure - [Data Model](https://app.dynomatic.io/features/data-model): Infer entities, key templates, item collections, relationships, and access patterns from observed items, with evidence and confidence levels. - [Schema-Aware Queries](https://app.dynomatic.io/features/schema-aware-queries): Import ElectroDB or DynamoDB Toolbox schemas, or use an inferred Data Model, and query by entity and access pattern. - [Results Grid](https://app.dynomatic.io/features/data-grid): Inspect items with type-aware rendering, nested values, dates, TTL expiry, and structured key displays when a Data Model is available. - [Table Browser](https://app.dynomatic.io/features/table-browser): Find tables across connected workspaces, mark favorites, and open table settings. ## Investigate: Query and troubleshoot data - [Visual Query Builder](https://app.dynomatic.io/features/visual-query-builder): Build Query and Scan operations with key conditions, filters, indexes, and projections. - [PartiQL Editor](https://app.dynomatic.io/features/partiql-editor): Write PartiQL with completion, parser-based validation, and an advisory pre-run reading of whether a statement resolves to GetItem, Query, or a full Scan.
