Command palette
Find and run anything from the keyboard
Open the command palette, search every table and command at once, narrow with a prefix, drill into a page, and act on a row.
The command palette is one search box over everything Dynomatic can do. Every table in every connected workspace, every command, your favorites, saved queries, saved tab groups, and workspaces are in one list. If an action exists in a menu or on a toolbar, you can reach it here by typing part of its name, and the row shows the shortcut that gets you there faster next time.
Open the palette
Press ⌘ K on macOS or Ctrl + K elsewhere. ⌘ P and Ctrl + P still work. The shortcut works while a text field, an editor, or a dialog has focus, and pressing it again closes the palette. You can also click the search field at the top of the window.
Before you type, the palette shows two groups. Recents lists up to six tables and commands you used recently, newest first, with a relative time. Suggested follows what is in front of you: with a table open it offers the run command, the selection commands, and Close Tab. On a first run it offers Tables, Add workspace, and Show Keyboard Shortcuts. A footer under the list names the prefixes and the navigation keys.
Escape closes the palette. If you close it by mistake with text typed, reopen it within a few seconds and the text is back.
Search
Type any part of a name. Every word you type has to match something on the row, and the words can land on different parts of it. orders east finds the Orders table in us-east-1 and nothing else. refresh finds Refresh Tables through a hidden keyword, and the row shows the keyword that matched.
Results are grouped by kind, and the group with the best match leads. Groups with nothing to show disappear while you type. In the mixed list each group keeps its best rows, 8 for Actions, 5 for Tables, and 3 for the rest, and ends in a row that reads N more results, type # to see all. Choose that row to see the whole group with your text kept.
Rows you choose come back sooner. The palette remembers each choice, weights it by how recently and how often you made it, and forgets it over a few weeks. A clearly better text match still wins over a frequently chosen one.
Narrow with a prefix
Type one of these as the first character of an empty input.
| Prefix | Shows |
|---|---|
: or > |
Commands, saved queries, and saved tab groups |
# |
Favorites, then every table in every connected workspace |
@ |
Workspaces |
A lone prefix lists that whole group, ranked by what you use most, and names the other prefixes underneath. The prefix becomes a chip beside the input, so #orders reads as the Tables chip plus orders. To remove a chip, press Backspace on an empty input or click the chip’s remove button.
To search one workspace’s tables, type @, choose the workspace, then type #. The workspace chip scopes everything under it.
A prefix only counts as the first character of an empty input. A table named #audit typed mid-search is text.
Drill into a page
A command whose title ends in … opens a page inside the palette instead of running. Query by index… lists the open table’s primary index, GSIs, and LSIs, and choosing one selects it in the Filters view and adds its partition-key condition, the same as picking it from the mode pill. Switch to tab… lists the open tabs with the active one marked. Switch to workspace… lists your connected workspaces, and Connect a workspace… lists the ones you set aside so you can reconnect one. Set theme…, Open settings page…, Show or hide columns…, and Sort results… list their choices with the current one marked.
A page keeps the input and the list and shows a breadcrumb above them. Type to filter it. Escape or Backspace on an empty input goes back one level with your previous text restored. Choosing a leaf runs it and closes the palette.
Act on a row
Press Tab on the highlighted row to open its actions as a page. A table offers Open, Open in new tab, View schema, Copy table name, and the favorite toggle. A saved query offers Run, Open its table, and Delete. A saved tab group offers Open and Remove. A command offers Run, Copy shortcut, and Assign shortcut…, which opens Settings on the Keyboard Shortcuts page. A workspace offers Switch, Browse tables…, Connect or Disconnect, Edit, and Delete.
Press ⌘ Enter to run the row’s first action without opening the panel. On a table that opens it in a new tab.
Rows that have actions show a small Tab hint on the right.
Move with the keyboard
| Key | Does |
|---|---|
| Up, Down | Move the highlight, wrapping at both ends |
Ctrl + P, Ctrl + N |
Same as Up and Down |
⌥ ↓, ⌥ ↑ |
Jump to the next or previous group, wrapping from the last group to the first |
| Home, End | Jump to the first or last row |
| Enter | Run the highlighted row |
⌘ Enter |
Run the row’s first action |
| Tab | Open the row’s actions |
⌘ 1 to ⌘ 9 |
Run the Nth visible row |
| Escape | Go back one page, or close at the top |
| Backspace on an empty input | Go back one page, or remove the innermost chip |
On Windows and Linux, Ctrl replaces ⌘ in the table.
⌘ 1 to ⌘ 9 skip a destructive row rather than renumber past it, so a number never runs something you did not mean.
Act on a selection
With rows selected in the results grid, the palette offers Delete 3 rows, Copy 3 rows as JSON, and Clear 3 selected rows, with the real count. They are absent when nothing is selected.
Destructive commands
Delete table, Delete workspace, Reset sample data, and Clear command history open the same dialogs the rest of the app uses. Delete saved query, Remove saved group, Revert all pending changes, Commit pending changes, and Delete profile open one confirmation, which carries a Production badge when the table or workspace is classified as production. No destructive command runs from Enter alone.
Deleting rows is different: it stages the deletion into pending changes, and Commit pending changes is where the palette asks.
Recover an expired session
When a command needs a live connection and the workspace’s session has expired, the palette offers the repair instead of failing. Run query becomes Reconnect to Execute Query / Scan in the same position, and choosing it starts that workspace’s own sign-in. While a sign-in is already running, the command is absent.
Give a command a shortcut
Open Settings, then Keyboard Shortcuts. Every command is listed, grouped by area, including the ones that ship without a binding. Assign one and the palette row shows it. See Command reference for the defaults.
